John & Krista Expecting

Filed under: Belly — jakalphotography @ 1:30 PM

A few weeks back, one of Krista’s friends contacted me wondering about purchasing a “Belly to Baby” Package for Krista and John.  She and a bunch of Krista’s other girlfriends thought that would be a fabulous gift for the couple, and I couldn’t agree more. 😉  The only stipulation was that we get the “Belly” portion of the package in A.S.A.P., as Krista and John are expecting their baby in March…and so we did.

I met with Krista and John last weekend and I must say…they chose a FANTABULOUS location and time of day to have their shots done.  We started outdoors on a gorgeous property owned by a friend…the setting was perfect, the light absolutely gorgeous, and the stunning couple glowing with excitement and love for their unborn child.  I have to digress here for a moment…I really get caught up in the moment when doing prenatal shoots.  I don’t know what it is…but, I think it’s me remembering…perhaps sub-consciously…what it felt like expecting a child….the emotion….the love……excitement of it all.  I, unlike some others I know, LOVED being pregnant with both of my children.  It’s an undescribable feeling…one that I’ll never forget.  So, I REALLY want to capture the mood and the love between a couple as they await a new chapter in their life.

Afterward, we moved indoors…where both John and Krista had lots of wonderful ideas for their shots.  John also dabbles in photography, which I found out in the middle of our session…having shot a few weddings himself.  Now I must admit, it ALWAYS makes me nervous when my clients are photographers themselves, as I worry that they’ll be disappointed with the end result…whether it’s not quite what they were looking for or my style is a bit different than theirs.  But…it can be handy too…when someone knows exactly what they are looking for.

Anyway, I decided that today was the day to tidy my office…and yet again I’m procrastinating…yeah, I don’t like cleaning.  So, I decided to check out a few of the images from our shoot last weekend…and couldn’t resist pulling a few out to edit. 🙂  And so far, this is what I have.

John & Krista…thanks so much for the wonderful session and I look forward to meeting your new bundle within the next few weeks!

For today and tomorrow…smile,

Scott & his boys

Filed under: Family — jakalphotography @ 3:42 PM

I tried to get together with Scott and his boys back in January, but wow!…what is up with the weather this winter?!?!?  It rained the day that we were scheduled to do their family shoot…so, we postponed it for a couple weeks.  We could have done all indoor shots (as the light in Scott’s living room is fabulous), but with three young boys, full of energy…well, it wouldn’t show their true colours if we made them hang out in the livingroom for the entire shoot.

So, I joined Scott and his boys one Sunday morning in February, over in Bayfield…to capture some lasting memories for Scott.  And, I believe our mission was accomplished, as I captured their true personalities…lol.  The two older, totally into the Nintendo DS…lol…and the youngest, just a tad shy. 🙂  All in all, the boys were awesome and I had so much fun hanging out with these guys.  Like I said, we started at Scott’s place for a few shots in the warmth of their cozy living room, before heading out into the bright and beautiful (but cold) sunshine!  Scott really wanted to get a different and true feeling of living in Bayfield…so, we headed down to the harbour and fish market to do their outdoor shots.

Seriously, these boys made for fabulous shots and I had a SUPER hard time choosing my favourites.  Really…I could have posted all of their images, but it would have taken you forever to look through them all…so, here are just a few of my faves!

For today and tomorrow…smile,

Darlene

MacDonald Family

Filed under: Family — jakalphotography @ 3:26 PM

I have had the privilege of following Kevin & Amanda’s family as they grow.  I started by doing their family shoot back in 2008, with Maranda, while they were expecting their second child.  Then over the past year, I have got to capture the stages of their youngest, Pierce as he grows from a newborn to a year old.  Back in the fall, we had scheduled a session to include the extended family, but weather did just not allow for the outdoor shots, causing us to reschedule.  So, in January Amanda had me do shots of  the extended MacDonald family, along with Pierce’s one-year shoot.  It was fabulous to meet the rest of the MacDonald family…although I did already know most of them.

It really is important to some people (like Amanda and I…lol), to ensure that we document our family as time passes.  I don’t think it’s something that people like us just want to fill their walls with…these images are so much more.  They are to share with our children as they grow, someday to share with our grandchildren and to be passed along for generations to come.  It really is fabulous to have these memories to share.  So, we started off in the warmth of Kevin & Amanda’s home before we ventured to the chilly outdoors for a few more shots.  The kids were awesome and maybe even had some fun…lol.

Thank you MacDonald family for allowing me to capture your memories! 🙂

For today and tomorrow…smile,

Darlene

And I couldn’t leave out James…he sat their patiently waiting for his portrait to be take too. 🙂
