Gordon & Lisa – Married

Filed under: Weddings — jakalphotography @ 3:30 PM

Wow…what wonderful weather for spring weddings…I’m LOVIN it!  I was a little worried on Friday, as they were calling for showers on Saturday, but Gord & Lisa’s special day was gorgeous!  We were outdoors for most of their photos and about 30 seconds after we finished and were heading in for dinner, it started to rain.  Afterall, rain on your wedding day is supposed to mean good luck. 🙂

I met Gord and Lisa for the first time back in December, when they were visiting family in the area for Christmas.  We had so much to chat about and clicked right away…I was instantly excited about shooting their wedding.  Lisa is originally from the Goderich area and Gord from New Liskeard, where I too have family.  So, once we all started talking about cottages, fishing and hunting…well, we had to keep reminding ourselves that we had wedding photography to discuss…lol.  It was great though…it’s such an awesome feeling to know that you can relate with a couple.  They now live near Ottawa, where they are both teachers, but decided to come back to the area and be married at the Benmiller Inn.

The day was perfect…the weather warm and the rain held off until later in the day.  Their spring nature theme fell right in line with the weather and the flowers starting to bloom.  Luann’s Country Flower’s did a fabulous job with the bouquets, while Lisa…along with the help of her family and friends, created the masterpieces in the centre of each table and other decor.  It was gorgeous!  Lisa made sure that every detail of the day fit in perfectly, most of which carried sentiment and meaning…right down to the feathers in the boutonniere, being from the first time she went hunting with Gord.

I’ve had a busy Easter weekend, and by no means have had the chance to go through all of their images, but want to share some of my favourites so far.  Gord and Lisa…thank you sooo much for allowing me to capture these special memories for you.  I wish you a lifetime of happiness together!

For today and tomorrow…smile,

Darryl & Te-Anna – Sneak Peek

Filed under: Weddings — jakalphotography @ 4:30 PM

What a fabulous day for a March wedding!!!  Last year when Darryl and Te-Anna booked me for March 27th for their wedding, I have to honestly admit…I was a little worried about the weather.  In Huron County, especially along Hwy. 21, you NEVER know what the weather is going to do this time of year.  But, wow…mother nature was on their side.  It was a tad chilly, but the sun was shining and the grounds of Hessenland were dry and snow-free! 🙂  Don’t get me wrong…I love to shoot in the snow, but this time of year it tends to be mucky and brown, unless it’s a blizzard…which would not have been ideal either.

I had a fabulous time capturing this couples’ big day.  We did all of their shots right at Hessenland…in the buildings and on the grounds.  Darryl and the groomsmen looked fab in their tuxes, the bridesmaids gorgeous in their gowns and Te-Anna…simply stunning!  Her gown was absolutely phenomenal!  What made the day even more for me, was that I knew almost all of the wedding party, family and guests…which really made it easy to work with everyone.

Now, at the couple’s request…they’d like to see their images before I share.  However, I am going to post a few detail shots and just one group shot as a sneak peek.  I promise I will post more in the weeks to come, once the couple has had the opportunity to see them first. 🙂  I was going to limit it to just details, but Te-Anna had a great idea for a shot…that turned out fantabulous, so I just have to share it!

Darryl and Te-Anna….congratulations on your marriage and I wish you all the best for years to come.  Thank you for including me and allowing me to capture those special memories for you to cherish always.

For today and tomorrow…smile,

Darlene

Mark & Karen – Married

Filed under: Weddings — jakalphotography @ 11:59 PM

I want to start this post with some complete and utter honesty…a little secret that I try to hide…the only one who is FULLY aware of the severity of what I’m about to tell you is my assistant, Carla.  I get SUPER CRAZY NERVOUS before I shoot a wedding.  It happens every time, no matter who the couple is, where the wedding is, what the weather is like or how prepared I am.  I think it’s all part of me wanting everything to be perfect.  I think it’s good to be nervous though…as I think it just shows how important it is to me, to work under pressure and do the utmost best that I can.  So…for the last two nights I’ve hardly slept…lol.  I’ve been worried, as today was my first wedding of the year, after not having shot a wedding for exactly six months to the day.  Then, when I woke up and saw the weather…well, the rain didn’t worry me so much, but holy crazy windy out there…so maybe just a pinch of added stress. 🙂

Anyway, Karen contacted me while she was abroad in France for a year and asked me to shoot she and Mark’s wedding.  The three of us got together back in January to discuss details and I knew right away that this couple is fantabulous for each other.  So, today when the weather didn’t allow for outdoor shots, I knew it wouldn’t matter…as the love this couple shares would shine through in any atmosphere…and of course it did.  When I arrived home this evening, I went through their images quickly because I couldn’t wait to share…but, I’m sure there are plenty more gems in the mass of images that I still have to go through.  However, here are a few that caught my attention right away.

Karen purchased this stunning gown in Paris, France while she was there.

The beautiful bouquets and flowers were designed by McInnis Flowers, located in London, Ontario.

The wedding cake was created by Melrose Bakery.

I had to grab a shot of Karen with her guitar, before she headed off for the ceremony and reception, both of which were held at Bellemere Winery.

The girls looked sooo gorgeous.

And the fellas…looking pretty good too.

Karen and Mark are both so super photogenic.  They can really work the camera. 🙂

Congratulations Mark and Karen…you are a fabulous couple.  I am truly honoured to have been part of your special day.  Wishing you all the best today and forever.

For today and tomorrow…smile,

Darlene
